My First Blogger Tourney in One Word

Poo

That's how I played - like a big steaming pile of your favorite excrement.

The turnout was great - 133 peeps - I was more juiced than I normally am for a tourney. My thanks goes out to Iggy for setting up another quality get together.

I then proceed to play maybe 4 hands in the first 40 minutes. It was driving me nuts. I lost a big chunk of my stack holding AJo to someone calling my big bets down with J10o on a board of J 10 9 x x.

Fun moment: with the blinds 25/50, I raise in EP to T150 with the hammer's illegitimate cousin 72s (clubs) and everybody's folds and I of course show for the laughs.

I am down to T500 when I'm dealt 107o in the BB with the blinds still 25/50. All fold to the button who min raises to T100. The SB calls and I defend to see flop of 10 9 8 rainbow. I check raise all-in and the button calls me with 22. Turn is a 7 and river is a blank so now I'm now back up to T1300. I get moved to a new table with the likes of HDouble and Bad Blood.

Blinds now 50/100 and I have T1100 which is below the average. I get dealt 88 on the button. Hdouble makes it T300 to go from EP and everybody folds to me and I just call. Blinds fold and we're two handed. Flop comes J 5 4 rainbow and HDouble checks to me...

There will always be hands that make it abundantly clear you can still improve on your game. You know - the hands that you play completely wrong and the only thing you can take away from the experience is that you never play that way again. One that says "U have something yet to learn" - this was one of those hands...

I decide to get cute and bet half my remaining stack (T450 or something). HDouble check-raises over the top all-in. I think to myself "man I fucked up here" and fold like a giant puss. I should have pushed all-in off the flop and put him to the decision. If he has a bigger pocket pair or a jack so be it. At the very least check and see another card. No, I made a horrible bet, and a great player (and blogger) took me to the woodshed and whooped my ass.

So now I am very small stacked at T500 with the blinds 50/100. I get 87s (spades) in LP and just call. Me and the BB (Bad Blood) turn out to be the only players. Flop comes K Q 7 - 1 spade. Check Check - turn is A spades - BB checks, I go all-in with bottom pair and flush draw. BadBlood calls me with Q9o and I miss the flush on the river. Out a disappointing 101/133.

I took out my rath at Party Poker and in 40 minutes I was up $160 playing 3/6 Holdem. I then won a $8 Sub Qual SNG for a $70 entry into a single table qualifier for the big Million Dollar ($600+40) guaranteed tourney on Sat. I will play that tonight and maybe have another shot at a nice payday.

I look forward to the next tourney - it cannot come soon enough...

My first 3/6 Sample

According to my new favorite tool Poker Tracker, the following are my results for my first 1000 hands of 3/6 Limit on Party Poker:

19 sessions
15 winning sessions (78.95%)
$471.50 - total profit
1034 hands
14.78 hours
5.52 BB/Hr
7.89 BB/100 hands

So I'm making $31.90/hr playing one table of 3/6. I know its a small sample but I am happy with my results thus far. I've been bad beat, had four losing sessions, and made a few bad decisions but my overall game is coming through over the long haul. I figure I'll play 3/6 till the end of the month and then I think I will take the advice of HDouble and start multi-tabling 3/6 to see how that goes. I have done some 2-tabling but only for a couple hours.

I cannot wait till tomorrow night's Blogger tourney on Poker Stars. If you haven't signed up yet (like me) grab the password from Iggy and get on board. Only $20+2 NL and it should be very entertaining. I just want to make it through the first hour.

My new computer is arriving today, according to UPS, so I'm leaving work early so I can pick it up from my office. I'll be up and ready tomorrow for sure. Does anyone out there run dual monitors on their current system? I have a nice 17" monitor now and I'm getting a 19" with my new computer, so I was toying around with the idea of hooking them both up, but I don't know if there is any downside to doing it.

Sorry for the short work post and I will see everyone tomorrow night. I should be playing under BluMK...
